INSTRUCTOR: MEGAN ANDREWS
JULY 10 – 31
WEDNESDAYS @ 9:00AM PST
GRADES 4-6 | $135
Class Description
Have you ever kicked off your shoes and sprawled belly first in deep grass, midsummer? Your senses teem with a miniature universe of life–a jungle hidden in plain sight in your backyard. Surely, you’ve daydreamed about those creatures, humble and invisible, whose plucky mettle begs for a drama all their own?
This summer, Miss Andrews will don a khaki hat and lead you on safari through this tiny wilderness. Together, we’ll wonder at the slyness of a mongoose in a steamy Indian jungle, the unrelenting courage of two mice in castle and city, and the faithful woodland community of the verdant Redwall Abbey. Even as we delight in each beast’s strengths, Miss Andrews will explore an author’s impulse to spotlight a creature instead of a person as their main character. This apology for anthropomorphism in children’s literature is guaranteed to deepen a reader’s delight!
